A man who was stabbed to death inside a church in Austin is suspected of murdering his estranged wife, authorities said.
Police were called about 1:30 a.m.
Monday to the First Baptist Church of the Nazarene in the city’s northwest.
They said a man walked into the church and opened fire.
The suspect is described as being about 50 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 165 pounds with short black hair.
He was wearing a black jacket and dark pants, a white shirt and black sneakers.
He had a blood-stained shirt, police said.
Witnesses told police they heard gunfire but couldn’t identify the man.
He appeared to be carrying a knife.
The church is located in a neighborhood that’s filled with empty lots and vacant lots.
